A TALENTED singer is in with the chance of winning a £50,000 cash prize.

John Aspinall, of South Kirkby, is one step closer to being classed the champion of Open Mic UK after reaching the regional finals stage of the competition.

The unemployed 30-year-old said singing has his passion for most of his life.

He said: “I’ve been singing for 16 years. The people who listened to me all said I had a really talented vocal range. I did the competition last year but this year I’m in the regional finals.

“Now I’ve just got to sell myself.

“I’ve wanted to be a singer all my life and I’ve done competitions like The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent and The Voice.”

Mr Aspinall will take part in the regional finals which are being held at Dewsbury Town Hall on October 13 - 14.

And if he gets through to the next stage of the competition, his sights are set for the national finals at London’s O2 Arena.

Mr Aspinall, who is actively involved in community and charity work across the local area, and often performs at Burntwood Community Centre events, said: “It would be amazing to win, it would get my career up and running anyway.”
