Schools score big at festival
Local schools take part in basketball tournament/festival at Minsthorpe Community College
PUPILS from schools across the Express area ran rings around each other when they competed in a basketball festival at Minsthorpe Community College.
The six schools were full of team spirit when they visited the Minsthorpe Lane college on Friday.
Northfield Primary School, Ash Grove J&I School, Stockingate Mill Junior School, Carlton J&I School, Upton Primary School and Moorthorpe Primary School all took part in the day’s sporting event.
They battled it out against each other in a number of energetic games of basketball.
Carlton J&I School dodged and shot their way to victory winning with the year two and year four teams.
The year six competition was a close competition between Upton Primary School and and Moorthorpe Primary School, but Upton claimed the title.
Laura Steel, school sports co-ordinator at the college, said it was a great way for pupils to get to know each other.
She said: “Inter-school sports events are so important as they encourage children to mix with each other, as well as bringing out their competitive side.”
Miss Steel said it also made them familiar with the college ready for when they started the next stage of their studies there.
The festival is an annual event and Miss Steel hopes it will continue in the future.
