Royal invite for Glenn

AN Upton man who has raised thousands of pounds for charity has received a royal invite to Buckingham Palace.

Glenn Whitehouse, of Waggon Lane, has been invited to the Queen’s garden party in London on Thursday, July 22, in recognition of his fundraising work.

Mr Whitehouse, 37, has collected more than 30,000 by carrying out challenging feats such as climbing a mountain with a fridge on his back and the annual log run, which involves running 16 miles carrying an 8ft telegraph pole.

A number of charities, including the Prince of Wales Hospice, Barnsley Hospice, Sheffield Children’s Hospital, Starlight, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Help a Hallam Child and the SESKU Boxing Academy, have benefited from his hard work.

Mr Whitehouse, who works for Interbrew UK Logistics, will take his girlfriend, Tracey Connor, along to the garden party.

He said: “The invite arrived on Christmas Eve and it came as quite a surprise – it took some sinking in at first. I don’t know who nominated me for the invite, but it says it is in recognition of my services to charity.

“I am really looking forward to it. I first started fundraising for Barnsley Hospice 10 years ago – my aunt was a nurse there and she had been telling me how good it was, but how they only received limited government funding.

“I came up with the idea of the log run and it all just stemmed from that.”
