Pupils raise cash for teacher’s son

Pupils raised more than £400 for a charity close to their teacher’s heart by dressing in white and blue.
Emma Kendrick, a teacher at St Joseph’s Primary School, Moothorpe, asked the pupils to help raise money to help find a cure for a rare condition which her three-year-old son, Joseph, suffers from.
Mrs Kendrick, 36, said: “Joseph has Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH). He doesn’t have an enzyme that breaks down glycine, which helps with brain function.
“Last year my husband and I decided it was time to look for a cure for Joseph, so we set up Joseph’s Goal campaign.
“The pupils at St Joseph’s had a non-uniform day, dressed in white and blue, Joseph’s Goal’s colours, and had a bun and wristband sale to raise money.”
The effort from pupils at the Barnsley Road school added £410.25 to the fund, topping it up to £33,000 so far.
Mrs Kendrick said: “We found a doctor in America who is trying to find a cure, the money we have raised so far has paid for a research assistant.”
