GREEN-FINGERED pupils got their hands dirty when they created an allotment area at their school last week.

The children, from Fitzwilliam Primary School, marked and dug out the allotment and created individual raised beds with the help of gardeners from the National Trust at Nostell Priory.

They created the allotment, which they will use to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables over the spring and summer months.

The project was aimed at encouraging the children to learn more about growing their own food as well as teaching them about healthy eating and staying active.

The food the children have grown will be used by the pupils to create fun and healthy recipes in school.
