A POLICE clamp down on illegal parking in the South East is continuing.

A fortnight ago, as reported in last week’s Express, seven vehicle owners returned to their cars in Elmsall Way, South Elmsall, to find they had been fined for parking illegally on double yellow lines.

But the message does not seem to have got through and drivers are continuing to park illegally, prompting officers from South East neighbourhood policing team to continue their focus on the issue.

Inspector Geoff Carter from the NPT said: “When we engage the local community we find that one of the issues that is mentioned on a regular basis is the disregard for parking restrictions on several locations throughout the South East area.

“Parking restrictions are in place with the purpose of keeping both motorists and pedestrians safe, and we have on numerous occasions advised people, but unfortunately people still continue to disregard the restrictions.”

Insp Carter said any illegal parking can be dangerous. He said the double yellow lines on Elmsall Way are in placed to allow lorries to pass through easily, but the illegally parked cars are making it unsafe for the large vehicles to drive down the road.

He added the police have also had problems with parking on Barnsley Road, South Elmsall, where officers have been patrolling.

Last week the Express reported that debate about the best use of officers’ time had been sparked on Facebook after police used the networking site to warn motorists not to park on Elmsall Way.

Insp Carter said: “Please check the parking restrictions when you park and don’t park illegally.”
