CANNABIS farms have been uncovered by police with the help of the community.

Officers from the South East neighbourhood police team found a well-established farm on Thomas Street, South Elmsall this week. A 27-year-old man was arrested.

They also found 24 mature cannabis plants at an address on Burntwood Drive, South Kirkby. A 51-year-old man living at the property was arrested.

Officers also found cannabis growing at a house in Beech Street, South Elmsall, where a woman had previously been arrested and cautioned for growing the plants in her loft.

The 38-year-old woman was arrested and charged with production of cannabis and she will be attending Pontefract Magistrates’ Court in the near future.

Police sergeant Lee Carlson, said: “These are the latest updates from our crackdown on cannabis farms and anyone who thinks they can grow cannabis without fear of attention from the police is foolish. As well as being illegal it is also dangerous due to the real risk of electrical fire from the kind of equipment used. I would encourage anyone with information to contact the police, which will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.”
