Pirate-themed fun at children's centre
YOUNGSTERS have enjoyed a fantastic time at a pirate-themed fun day in South Kirkby.
The children took part in a number of arts and crafts activities, made fruit kebabs and smoothies, entered a colouring-in competition and had a teddy bears' picnic at the Little Owls Children's Centre at Common Road Infant and Nursery School.
They enjoyed a pirate-themed slide and bouncy castle, met a range of animals - including chincillas, giant snails, snakes, lizards, millipedes, cockroaches, rabbits, guinea pigs and tarantulas - had their faces painted and ate free ice cream.
They were visited by a crew from South Elmsall Fire Station and had fun and games onboard an activity bus.
Many of the children also took part in the Big Toddle to raise funds for Barnados.
Each youngster received a medal, drink and sweets when they crossed the finishing line.
Claire Dolby, a parent support worker at the centre, said: "The event was very well attended and everyone had a fantastic time.
"We had a load of animals for the children to meet, which went down really well.
"The weather held up as well - it didn't rain at all and the afternoon turned out very nice. We had a lot of children take part in the Big Toddle, but we don't know how much we managed to raise yet."
