THE OLYMPICS may have gripped the nation but everyone can have a piece of the action.

Mick Cordall, from Hemsworth, carried the Olympic flame through Ackworth and is now offering residents a chance to hold it for a small donation as part of a fundraising drive.

He will be at the annual football gala on Sunday, August 19, at Hemsworth Sports and Fitness Centre.

Cash raised at the event will be donated to the Laila Milly Foundation and Cancer Research UK.

Teams of six footballers will battle it out to be crowned champions. It cost £40 per team to enter.

It starts at 10am and there will be a bouncy castle, games, face painting, food and drinks, and dance performances.

The winner’s presentation will take place at The George and Dragon Pub, Hemsworth, directly after the event.
