No charges over tot in Wragby fire tragedydeath

THE stepfather of a toddler killed in a fire at a farm will not face any charges, police have said.

Isobel June Dobson, two, died after being trapped in a van when a fire broke out at Hessle Common Lane Farm in Wragby on September 30, last year.

Her stepfather, Terry Webb, 37, was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder on October 2.

Three days later he was released on bail by police while a major enquiry was conducted.

But this week West Yorkshire Police confirmed Mr Webb will not be charged.

A spokesman said: “A 37-year-old man arrested in connection with the fire has been released from his bail conditions.”

Emergency services were called to the farm at around 5.30pm and found a van and two barns on fire.

When the fire started, Isobel was in a child seat in the back of the van with her one-year-old half-sister Sarah, which was parked next to one of the barns.

Mr Webb managed to rescue Sarah but he could not reach Isobel in time.

Mr Webb and Isobel’s mother had been to look after horses at the farm.

They took the children back to the van to give them a drink and a snack.

It is believed the fire may have started in the barn and then quickly spread to the van.

At the height of the blaze, ten fire engines were used to try and bring it under control.

Since her death, Isobel’s family have held several events to raise money in her memory.

On Sunday, September 9, they will hold a fun day at Knottingley Rugby Union Club.

It starts at 11am with a tombola, raffle and a funfair. There will be a disco at The Winston pub on Womerlsey Road from 7pm.

All proceeds will be go towards The Fire Fighters’ Charity, and other charities.

The investigation into the fire is still on-going. Anyone with information should call police on 101.
