THE FUTURE of a meat processing plant which employs 100 people in South Kirkby is set to be secured after its owners put forward a new deal.

Owners of Yorkshire Premier Meats, which is based on Langthwaite Grange Industrial Estate, ANM Group, has declared its support for a management buy in (MBI) - which would see a new management team buy the business and secure the future of the staff.

The deal will see Jim Jaffray, managing director of the ANM Group Meat Divsion, and finance director Keith McCall take over.

The Express reported in July how the plant had been put up for sale and staff were worried about the security of their jobs.

But a statement issued by the ANM Group said that the business is now enjoying good trading relationships and has returned to a position of breaking even.

The plant, which prepares meat for the ready meal industry, should have its future secured within a month.

And an ANM Group spokesman confirmed that the deal will see the 100 jobs secured.

The statement said: “The Yorkshire Premier Meats business has, in the course of 2012, been returned to a position of breakeven trading and is enjoying good trading relationships with its main suppliers and customers.

“The proposal has received the unanimous support of the ANM board, and the MBI team, with ANM Group backing, will move on to finalise funding and other steps required prior to completion within the next month or so.”
