Neil is an ACE guest
STUDENTS were glowing with inspiration after being visited by an enterprising television star.
Neil Westwood, who successfully pitched an idea to the infamous business tycoons on the BBC show Dragons' Den, visited Hemsworth Arts and Community College to talk to students about
enterprise.
During his visit, which was part of an alternative curriculum experience (ACE) day at the college, Mr Westwood also gave students the task of coming up with a business concept based around glowsticks.
Mr Westwood was awarded 100,000 from the 'dragons' in August 2008 to develop magic whiteboards, a portable whiteboard that can be used as an alternative to flipchart paper.
The ACE event was aimed at teaching students about enterprise, the different careers available to them and economic wellbeing.
There was also a health fair, workshops on how to be financially aware, mock elections for the Mayor of Hemsworth, road safety awareness sessions and a visit from Streetwise to teach teenagers about staying away from gangs and guns.
Associate assistant principal Stephen Godfrey said: "The students loved the visit from Neil Westwood and were very inspired by it all.
"They came up with some very creative ideas, including a glowstick bra and a nightlight made out of glowsticks. They enjoyed the other sessions too. It was a very successful day."
