More changes at cash-strapped trust
TWO top directors are leaving the trust which runs Pontefract Hospital in the latest change of management at the organisation.
Tracey McErlain-Burns, chief nurse and director of quality, and medical director Tim Hendra are leaving Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to take up new roles in the health service.
It is the second time in weeks that key figures on Mid Yorkshire’s board have left after four non-executives quit in July amid a deepening financial crisis.
The trust is forecast to be £26m in deficit at the end of the year and is facing major reorganisation to balance its books.
Ms McErlain-Burns, who began her career as student nurse in Dewsbury in 1981, will take up a senior role with regional health body NHS North of England.
She said: “I have never lost sight of being a nurse and respect the traditional values of compassion and caring. In my privileged time at Mid Yorkshire I have always sought to honour those values in the care of our patients and my support of our nurses.”
Prof Hendra, who joined Mid Yorkshire in 2008, is leaving to concentrate on national advisory roles he holds with the NHS.
He said: “It has been a privilege to have worked at the Mid Yorkshire Trust. However I feel the time is right for me to move on. I would to take this opportunity to thank all colleagues for their personal support during my tenure of post.”
Stephen Eames, Mid Yorkshire’s interim chief executive, said: “Tracey is renowned throughout the organisation and in the local health and social care economy as a strong advocate of nursing, for her tireless commitment to her work as a nurse leader and the high standards she sets for herself and others.
“Tim has worked hard to develop the trust’s arrangements for ensuring the medical workforce has a strong voice in the running of the organisation and in the development of clinical services. We wish Tim well in the future.”
Mid Yorkshire has appointed Richard Jenkins, currently clinical director for medicine, as acting medical director and Kate Harper, the current deputy chief nurse, as acting director of nursing and quality.
Last month three new non-executive directors, Pat Garbutt, Trevor Lake and Rosie Valerio, following a mass resignation over its worsening financial position.
