WITH gleaming chains of office, fur-trimmed coat and a chauffeur-driven car, the new Mayor of Wakefield impressed youngsters at Northfield Primary School.
The mayor, Coun Elaine Blezard, only took the reins of office earlier this month, made her first official school visit to the South Kirkby school last week.
Michelle Cunnington, deputy headteacher, said: “The children were in awe of the mayor in all her regalia. They brought along the mace and the chains of office and the children were very impressed.”
The mayor toured each class where the imaginative children asked her a range of questions, from the history of the outfit to whether she got paid, before joining her for lunch.
Mrs Cunnington added: “The children really enjoyed it, and learnt a lot about civic roles and the wider community.”
