Little girl inspires climbing challenge
THE SKY is the limit for dedicated fundraisers who are climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the Laila Milly Foundation.
Steve and Maya McCormack’s daughter, Laila Milly, died from a rare genetic disorder a day before her first birthday almost two years ago.
The Ackworth couple launched the foundation in her memory and have raised a staggering £85,000 to build a day centre on Kirkby Road, Hemsworth, which will help children with similar illnesses.
Now Mr McCormack is taking fundraising to the extreme and climbing the volcanic mountain in Tanzania. He is set to do the challenge in February 2014 and is hoping to get other people to join him. Money raised will go towards buying a wheelchair accessible vehicle to help children get to and from the centre as they already have enough cash to finish the day centre.
He said: “If we can raise enough for the vehicle that would be absolutely fantastic as it will help so many families.”
