A FAMILY who were supported by the Prince of Wales Hospice is encouraging residents to take part in its Light up a Life campaign this Christmas.

Robert Stonier – who was supported by the hospice after his dad Ken and mum Eileen died earlier this year – is encouraging residents to sponsor a light in the Halfpenny Lane hospice gardens in memory of a loved one.

Mr Stonier, of Great North Road, Darrington, said: “I will be dedicating a light for my mum and dad.

“To sponsor a light would give us a chance to remember them in a positive way.”

The campaign – launched in partnership with the Express – gives residents the chance to have their loved ones’ names, and who they are remembered by, displayed in books of remembrance in the hospice and at Pontefract and Airedale libraries.

From November 22, the names will also be printed weekly in the Express until Christmas.

Tom Belt, hospice fundraiser, said: “Christmas is a very special time. But it is difficult when you think of those that cannot be with you.

“We at the hospice aim to be part of the local community and Light up a Life is a big part of that. You can remember your loved one and help your local charity.”

To dedicate a light visit www.pwh.org.uk, call 0844 248 4782. or fill in the coupon in this week’s Express and send it with your donation to The Prince of Wales Hospice, Halfpenny Lane, Pontefract, WF8 4BG.
