Let loved one’s memory shine

LIGHTS will shine in memory of lost loved ones at the Prince of Wales Hospice this Christmas.

The Express is supporting the Hospice’s annual Light up a Life appeal, which gives local people the opportunity to commemorate a loved one by sponsoring a light in the Hospice gardens.

The names of all those remembered, and who they are remembered by, will be displayed in Books of Remembrance at the Hospice and South Elmsall Library as well as in the Express from November 24 until Christmas.

You need not have lost someone special at the Hospice to dedicate a light, but can choose to dedicate a light in remembrance, or simply sponsor a light to show support for the Hospice. All proceeds will go towards the running of the Hospice.

Hospice volunteer Hilary Edwards, of Wortley Place, Hemsworth, is supporting the appeal. Her husband Peter died at the Hospice.

Along with fellow volunteer Nicky Spellman, and her sister-in-law Lynn, the ladies also donate a Christmas tree to the Hospice each year. It is then used at the Hospice during the Light up a Life services.

Mrs Spellman, whose husband Andrew also died at the hospice, said: “I can never pay back what the Hospice did for Andrew and us. A Christmas tree really is nothing.

“Christmas was Andrew’s time, he loved the trees. To see the tree at the Hospice each year keeps him alive, it is something he would have loved.”

Hospice fundraiser, Tom Belt said: “The Hospice makes a difference in our local community and Light up a Life is yet another part of this.

“Light up a Life gives everyone a chance to reflect, but it also brings people together. It really helps the Christmas spirit come out.”

You can sponsor a light by visiting the Hospice website, www.pwh.org.uk or by calling 01977 781476.
