Kids clean up school fields
YOUNGSTERS who were disappointed by the state of their school field rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in with cleaning it up.
The pupils, from Moorthorpe J&I School, started up a group called the ‘school grabber service’ and set about organising a litter pick after realising that their field was full of unsightly rubbish.
They enlisted the help of PC Amanda Blunt, a safer schools officer with Wakefield District Police, to help with their clean-up operation.
The group collected numerous sacks of rubbish during the litter pick, which took place last month.
Insp Jackie Turton, from the South Kirkby neighbourhood police team (NPT), said: “What a difference they made and deservedly they were very proud of their achievements and this service to the local community.
“It’s great to see young people working with their local NPT making a difference in the community.
“It is important they feel proud of where they live.”
