House blaze under investigation

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Hemsworth this morning (SUNDAY).

Crews were called to an address in Holgate Gardens at around 3.50am.

Watch manager Anthony Thorp said the house was well alight when they arrived.

But a neighbour quickly confirmed that it was empty because the people who live there are on holiday.

Firefighters with breathing apparatus entered the house with hoses to put the fire out, and do a search to make sure it was no occupied.

The cause of the fire is thought to be suspicious and police and fire officials are investigating.
