Hemsworth estate burglaries reduced
INCREASED patrols have led to less crime in a burglary hotspot.
As reported in last week’s Express, officers from the South East neighbourhood police team had seen an unprecedented number of burglaries in Hemsworth’s Scotch estate over recent weeks.
Cash, mobile phones and laptops worth thousands of pounds were stolen –with seven burglaries taking place in just ten days.
Since last week’s report, one person has been arrested and released on bail.
Insp Carter, from the South East Neighbourhood Policing Team said the NPT stepped up patrols of the area in a bid to stop more families from suffering the misery of being burgled.
Since then the numbers have dropped substantially - with just two burglaries in the past seven days.
He said: “I am really pleased with the reduction in crimes and grateful to the community for their support in listening to our advice.
“Even though the crimes have been reduced, we want to make sure the thieves that did this are prosecuted.”
Insp Carter said these incidents could have been prevented as the thieves were sneaking in through open windows.
He urged residents to make sure they closed their windows to prevent opportunist thieves.
