Harvest festival celebrations
WDH -
YOUNGSTERS helped sow the seeds of friendship when they performed to Hemsworth residents as part of their harvest festival celebrations.
Pupils from St Helens J&I school, in Hemsworth, sang a variety of songs at Ashfield House, one of Wakefield and District Housing’s (WDH) Independent Living Schemes.
As well as planting flowers, they also took part in prize draws and a few games of bingo.
Grace Freeman, 82, who lives at Ashfield House, said: “Hearing the children sing was beautiful. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Mr Baird, teacher at the school in Highfield Road, said: “It is nice for the children to be able to share the Harvest festivity with the local community. They all looked forward to performing for the residents.”
Jane Gwilliam, WDH tenant involvement officer, said: “It’s great to see two generations come together to celebrate the Harvest season. The residents always really look forward to seeing the children.”
Tesco donated three hampers as raffle prizes filled with fresh fruit, vegetables and other groceries.
