Golden Dragons celebrate double success
MEMBERS of a martial arts academy have two reasons for celebration after receiving their new grades at a lucrative awards night.
Young and old from the ET Martial Arts Academy of the Seven Golden Dragons came together to celebrate their achievements over the last 12 months.
More than 200 people turned out at the Moorthorpe Miners Institute, on Barnsley Road to see 46 members of the academy gain different coloured sashes ranging in age from five to 70.
And they now have even more reason to celebrate after their base was bought by a new owner that has agreed to allow the academy to continue.
The future of the club was in doubt when head Eamon Timmons was forced to put the building up for sale in November.
But the new owner has agreed to allow the academy to continue.
Mr Timmons said: “The awards night was absolutely stunning. The support we got was great.
“Somebody is buying the building and they have said I can carry on doing what I do because it is for the good of the community.
“It’s great for the kids because they have somewhere to go and everything carries on as normal.”
