A CONCERT organised in tribute to a musician’s cancer fight will help nurture up-and-coming talent - as well as raising cash for the hospital that is treating him.
Stephen Probert, of Thomas Street, is raising funds for Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield, which has provided vital treatment to his best friend, Scott Mortimer, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in June last year.
Mr Probert, 39, said he wanted to give something back to the hospital that has helped his friend, a singer-songwriter.
He said: “They have been great with him so just wanted to do something to help them.
“The concert will be young up and coming talent playing their own music. We are trying to encourage new talent as well as raising money and awareness.
“And Scott is a singer and songwriter himself so he will perform at the concert too.”
Mr Mortimer, who also suffered brain damage after being hit by a bus in 2004, has just finished radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
Mr Mortimer, 34, of Cotswold Close, Hemsworth, said: “Cancer is something you never expect to hear anyone tell you that you have it and it’s nice to be in a position I can give something back as they were fantastic with me.
“I am really grateful to Stephen for organising the night.”
They are hoping to raise £1,000 for the hospital.
The concert takes place on Easter Sunday, April 8, at the Alpha Club, Southmoor Road, Hemsworth. Performers include Bam Morgan, Goldsoul, Mental Block, Gonzo and Scott Wainwright, as well as Mr Mortimer. For tickets, contact Mr Probert on 07544 736 992
