Fundraisers go for daring dive

BRAVE fundraisers took to the skies this weekend for a 15,000ft charity skydive after losing friends and family members to Motor Neurone Disease.
Express Grassroots columnist Colin Dobson, of Marsh Lea Grove, Hemsworth, was one of 15 daredevils who took the plunge in the event that raised more than £5,000 for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) funds.
He organised the event with his partner Shaun Fox, who lost his mum Brenda to the condition in 2004 when she was 62.
The jump was also held in memory of Stewart Hughes, who died from the disease aged 50 in August 2009 and whose niece Paula Maguire also did the dive.
Mr Dobson said: “I’d definitely do it again. The moment you jump out and you are falling at 125mph it’s the most intense feeling I’ve ever experienced.
“I’d like to thank everybody who joined in the jump.
“It’s really heart warming to know that so many people want to be involved in raising money in memory of Brenda and Stewart.”
Since Mrs Fox’s death, Mr Dobson has raised thousands of pounds for the Brenda Fox Tribute Fund, which is supported by the Motor Neurone Association by taking part in cycle rides, a cheeky calendar and naked snow pictures.
Mr Dobson, Mr Fox and Ms Maguire were joined in the jump by friends and family members Nathan Wain, Katie Dodgon, Joanne Stringfellow, Carl and Marie Conway, Tom Simpson, Lee Cumberbatch, Carol and Craig Studd, Lucie Bailey, Gemma MacKay, Becky Dibb and Katie Rudd.
