COUNCILLORS in Hemsworth are carrying out a full internal review of their work.

Hemsworth Town Council began a review of every aspect of their work around five weeks ago.

And council chair Tony Upson said nothing would be left untouched.

He said: “We will be reviewing absolutely everything from staff to job descriptions to the committee structures and how we provide services.

“It became apparent we needed one after we took on board the community centre, the market and the football facility because the structures we had got were not adequate enough.”

But the council are adamant that the review has not been prompted by a lack of funds - and it is something which should have been done a long time ago.

Coun Upson said: “It has been very, very long overdue and we need to check we are delivering what we should be delivering.

”As a town council the position we are in now, with the facilities we’ve got, they’re all brand new or refurbished.

“And we have very little debt and that’s from years ago.”

Coun Upson said that the council is in a strong position financially.

And added that Hemsworth Town Council are probably doing much better than other local councils.

He insisted that the review is being carried out to see if the council is providing the services the public want and not to cut spending.

Coun Upson said: “All we are trying to do is make sure we are running as efficient as we can and we are providing the services people need.”

And Coun Upson added that he hopes the results of the review will be fed back to the council in January.

He said: “It will more than likely be brought up at a special council meeting in January.

“And then any adjustments which need to be made can be debated in the usual way.”
