A FUNDRAISER certainly was not a wash out for firefighters at the weekend as they cleaned up cars to raise cash for charity.

South Elmsall firefighters spent four hours cleaning up cars and raised £297, which will be donated to the Firefighters Charity, as well as several other local charities which have yet to be decided.

South Elmsall Firefighter Greg Hurst, who represents the charity said it was a really successful day.

He said: “It was non-stop from around 10am until 2pm. It was great to see so many people coming along.”

Children’s firefighter helmets were also sold to add to the funds.

Mr Hurst thanked everyone for their generous donations, and also gave a special thanks to D&E Motor Spares, based in South Kirkby, who sponsored the event by providing sponges and other car cleaning essentials.

It was one of two car washing events the firefighters hold every year for the charity.

The Firefighters Charity provides services to help the lives of serving and retired fire fighters, fire personnel and their families who have been injured in their roles.

It costs £9m a year to keep the charity running. Visit www.firefighterscharity.org.uk for more information.
