Express calls for minute's silence in honour of Upton soldier

THE Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express is calling on as many people as possible to honour the memory of Upton soldier Rifleman Luke Farmer with a minute's silence.

Luke's family has backed the campaign, which will see people across the district and beyond taking time to honour Luke and his fellow servicemen and women at noon on Friday, February 5.

The silence will be held following his funeral, which will take place at Wakefield Cathedral at 10am. Mourners are asked to be in their seats for 9.30am.

The funeral procession will leave Luke's house, on Third Avenue, at 8.45am and will go through Upton to the War Memorial on Harewood Lane before setting off for the cathedral.

Luke, 19, of Third Avenue, died in an explosion near Sangin in Helmand province on Friday January 15, along with Cpl Lee Brownson, from County Durham.
