Express columnist to feature as part of literature festival

EXpress columnist Ian Clayton will be part of a renowned line-up for Wakefield’s first ever literature festival, which begins on Saturday.

Mr Clayton will host a writing workshop next Thursday at Drury Lane Library at 2pm before hosting a talk at The Orangery later that evening at 7.30pm as part of the Wakefield Lit Fest.

Headlining the festival is international poet and writer Simon Armitage who will be reading extracts from his latest book, Walking Home, which chronicles his journey along the Pennine Way, next Friday at The Orangery at 8pm.

But it all begins this Saturday when crime writer Neil White will be signing copies of his new novel, Beyond Evil, at Waterstones, in the Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield, at 11am.

There is a poetic party curtain raiser at The Orangery, Wakefield on the same evening at 7.30pm which will include open-mic sessions and a competition.

Other writers include poet Ian McMillan, Upton playwright John Godber and authors Martyn Bedford, Sarah Connor and Alison Taft.

Robert Powell, creative director of The Orangery and Beam, who have organised the festival, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have put together such a rich and varied Lit Fest programme.

“We hope the festival offers something for everyone and shows that literature doesn’t stand apart from everyday life.”

There will also be a series of acting workshops ran by The Yew Tree Youth Theatre who will also perform at The Orangery next Saturday, September, at 7.30pm.
