A BY-ELECTION is being held today to fill a west ward position on Hemsworth Town Council.

Voters are already taking to the polling stations to replace Ian Womersley, who was kicked off the council for failing to attend a meeting in six months following his wife’s illness and death.

Darren Campbell, for the Labour party, and independents Chris Tibbetts and Raymond Warren are standing for election.

Both Mr Tibbetts and Mr Warren previously sat on the council but were voted off in the elections in May 2011.
