Delays ‘worthwhile’ to create new food shop
Motorists in South Elmsall have been delayed this week by road works to install a power supply for a new shop.
The temporary traffic lights on Barnsley Road have caused congestion in the town centre, but many have told the Express that the end result of a new shop is worth the inconvenience.
The new shop is set to open as a Jack Fultons food store at the site of the former Plough pub.
Brian Capstick, deputy leader of South Elmsall Town Council, said the end result will be good for the community.
He said: “It has been an inconvenience for people, but I’m sure when the colliery was set up 100 years ago there was disruption then too - it’s a small price to pay to get business up and running.
“People have been complaining about the number of fast food places in the town, so getting Jack Fultons can only be good for the community and South Elmsall.
“The delay is only short term and it will provide us with food at affordable prices.”
A spokesperson from Wakefield Council said the roadworks have been carried out to install a new power supply to the shop, and will be finished on Friday, June 22.
Elizabeth Horsfall commented on the Express Facebook page and said: “Good luck to the new store I say, all new business is welcome in the town.
“A little disruption never hurt anyone.”
And Keith Winn said: “It gives local people an alternative to have to go to Tesco or Asda. Also good for those who cannot walk too far. A little disruption won’t hurt.”
The Express contacted Fultons Foods but they were unable to comment on when the store would be opening, or the number of jobs that would be created jobs in the area.
