A NEWLY formed dance group have shimmied and shaken their way to the regional finals of a talent competition.

The group, Sesku’s Secret, managed to take first prize for their duet dance performance, and crew dance at the first heat of Festival for Stars on Sunday in Scarborough.

The team is based at Burntwood Community Centre, South Kirkby, and have only been together for nine weeks, so they were shocked to win.

Dance teacher Nicci Evans took part in the event with the rest of the group, Beth Lumb, Millie Catch and Tom Flowitt and said it would mean the world to them if they won the regionals.

She said: “I am over the moon about getting through. The other schools had a really different style to us but they were all amazing.

“A school has to be really dedicated to succeed in a competition like this and I feel with extra rehearsals we could make it through to nationals.

“We are going to compete in the regionals believing we can win the whole competition.”

Previous winners of the competition have included talented dance group Diversity - who won Britain’s Got Talent in 2009.

Miss Evans said: “We only went there to compete, have fun, spend the day together and to gain confidence. We weren’t expecting to win and get through to the finals. That was the icing and the cherry on top of the cake.”

The group will compete in the regional finals, also held in Scarborough on June 10.

They are holding a fun day at Burntwood Community Centre, Church Top, on June 2, to help pay for transport to the event.
