Councillor elected
HEMSWORTH Town Council has a new Labour member after a by-election last Thursday.
Darren Campbell was elected on to the council’s west ward with 98 votes.
Independent candidate Raymond Warren got 65 votes and Chris Tibbetts, also an independent candidate, received 23 votes.
Coun Campbell replaces Ian Womersley, who was kicked off the council for failing to attend a meeting for six months following the illness and death of his wife, Deborah. He also resigned from his position on Wakefield Council and this seat will be filled in May’s elections.
The turnout for the by-election was 14 per cent.
The council is now made up of ten Labour councillors and five independent councillors.
Tina Pattison, town clerk, said: “We look forward to working to with Coun Campbell for the good of the whole township.”
