Community centre officially opened
MORE than a year on from opening, Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre was officially opened on Thursday.
Hemsworth MP Jon Trickett uncovered a plaque at the Bullenshaw Road centre, during a celebration of the users and members that have turned the building into a hive of activity since it opened in April last year.
A tea dance kicked off proceedings, which included Zumba and fitness demonstrations, as well as performances from Attitude Musical Theatre Company and Hip Hop Academy.
Guests included local dignitaries and members of the public.
Coun Tony Upson, chairman of the Town Council, said the “first class” displays had the audience breathless watching them.
He added: “The opening ceremony provided a showcase for our community centre users.”
Mr Trickett said: “It was a privilege to officially open Hemsworth Community Centre, which is an excellent facility for our local communities.
“Praise must be given to all those who supported the project throughout its development and who fought to overcome the obstacles along the way.”
A brass band concert was also held in the evening.
Town clerk Tina Pattison said it was a lovely opportunity to show what had been achieved over the last year.
