Children enjoy fun in the sun
Summer fun day at Grove Lane, Hemsworth run by the Police and WDH
CHILDREN got the chance to have fun in the sun at two events held in the area.
The youngsters took part in a mini-Olympics contest which included sack races.
They also got the opportunity to jump around a bouncy castle, enjoy bike rides and also had the chance to try out Kangoo boots - spring loaded, anti-gravity footwear.
The events were held at the Holmsley Estate, South Kirkby last Thursday and on Grove Lane in Hemsworth on August 9.
They were organised by the South East neighbourhood policing team (NPT), the NHS, Wakefield Council and Wakefield and District Housing.
PC Tony Whaley, the ward manager for South Kirkby, said: “I thoroughly enjoyed helping organise this fun day.
“It was well attended and thankfully the weather was nice all day.
“We had plenty of visitors to the police vans and some of the children dressed up in police uniform.
“Thank you to all our partners who worked so hard to make this a fun day.”
Inspector Geoff Carter, from the NPT, said the events were a success.
He said: “It’s always great to get the whole community together and this was no exception.
“One issue we have is keeping kids occupied during the summer holidays and this was the perfect way to do it.
“It also helped us engage with the community, and let us get to know each other.”
