THREE college students are hosting a charity football tournament to raise cash for Help for Heroes.

Connor Dennis, 17, and Ryan Newby and Thomas Pidduck, both 18, from Hemsworth Arts and Community College are hosting the event on February 23.

And they are hoping to bring in spectators from across the community to support the 13 teams taking part from the college.

Connor, of Hemsworth, said: “There aren’t many sports teams in the area and it will be a nice community event.

“Everyone loves to watch a good game of football.”

Spectator tickets cost £1 for children, and adults are asked to make a donation.

He said: “I hope we make around £200, which doesn’t seem a lot compared with other charity events, but think it will be a good amount for a day’s work.”

The students chose Help for Heroes because Mr Newby had planned to join the Royal Marines.

He said: “It’s just a fun way to raise money for a brilliant charity.”

The event starts at 3pm, on the astro tuft at the college on Station Road.
