Volunteers from a nursing home in South Elmsall are among 4,000 from a care providing organisation who have received an award from the Queen.

To celebrate her Diamond Jubilee last year, the Queen has presented 60 organisations - one for each year she has been on the throne - with the Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award.

The volunteers from Warde Aldam, Westfield Lane, South Elmsall, are among the 4,000 from MHA, a non-profit provider of care homes, housing and support services for the elderly, who have received the royal recognition.

Warde Aldam has a team of around 13 volunteers who provide services, such as gardening, as well as helping to looking after the 60 elderly residents of the care home.

Lynda Dunn, volunteer co-ordinator at Warde Aldam nursing home, said: “The volunteers are really good, they give their time, and they just come in and work really hard.

“This award gives them a bit of recognition. “I’m really proud of them. They do a brilliant job.

Mrs Dunn added: “They’re marvellous with the residents. The residents really appreciate the time given to them by the volunteers.”

Other organisations which have received a Diamond Jubilee Volunteering Award, include Age UK, Guide Dogs For The Blind, and Make a Wish Foundation UK.

Mrs Dunn said: “ If anybody over 16 is interested in becoming a volunteer they can come and have a chat with me to see if it is for them .”

“Its really nice for the residents to have a visitor if family can’t get in. Its nice to have somebody who will be able to sit with the residents.”
