Cannabis farm and red diesel found in Upton

A CANNABIS farm was found in Upton when a man was investigated for using red diesel illegally.

The South East Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT) found six cannabis plants when they searched an address on Smeaton Road on Thursday, August 2.

They attended the address after a tip from officers at HM Revenue and Customs who could smell the drug when they visited to test the occupant’s vehicle for the duty-free red diesel.

The NPT found growing equipment in a rear bedroom of the property, including a tent, lighting and fans.

They also found six plant pots that had been cropped for the drug, and there were five black bags of cannabis in the garage.

The occupant was taken to South Kirkby police station and was issued with a caution.

Insp Geoff Carter said: “This is another excellent example of partnership working, this time between HMRC and the police.

“HMRC officials suspected cannabis growing at a property they visited, they contacted the police and we took swift and positive action.

“Again South East NPT ask members of the community who suspect illegal drugs to inform us all intelligence will be fully investigated.”
