THREE loving brothers from Hemsworth held a bun sale to raise cash for charity in memory of their mum on the first anniversary of her death.

Jason, 10, Nathan, eight, and McKenzie, six, sadly lost their mum, Susan Shipp, to cancer but decided they wanted to do something in her honour.

So the inspirational youngsters – with the help of fellow pupils at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School – sold buns and made £300.

The cash will be donated to the Prince of Wales Hospice, on Halfpenny Lane, Pontefract. where Mrs Shipp died.

Jason, the eldest brother, said: “We know mum died at the Hospice and we wanted to raise money to help other people who are who are there.”

Friends and families at the school supported the event by providing enough buns to last three days.

The boys’ proud grandfather, Peter Shipp, 73, of Cow Lane, Ryhill, thought it was a great idea.

He said: “They have taken it really hard so for them to come up with an idea like this is so lovely.

“I am so proud of them and their mum would have been too.”

The cake sale was part of the Hospice’s Tea@3 Campaign – which encourages cake sales to raise cash for charity.

Becky Thorpe, community fundraiser at the Hospice said: “The boys told me lots of happy stories about their mum and even lit a candle for her in the chapel. The boys are fantastic and their family should be really proud.”
