BREAKING: Pontefract Hospital boss steps down amid criticism
Julia Squire
THE boss of the cash-strapped trust that runs Pontefract Hospital has stepped down amid mounting criticism of the management of its finances.
Tonight health chiefs announced Julia Squire, who has been chief executive of the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust for the last five years, is leaving the organisation – just days after it emerged the trust faces a deficit of almost £20m.
Stephen Eames, chief executive of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, will join the trust as interim chief executive in March.
Ms Squire will start a new role with the NHS Confederation.
The trust said in a statement: “The trust board wishes Julia every success in her new role and expresses its thanks for her positive contribution. We now look forward to working with Stephen to continue to provide safe, high quality care and develop our future vision.”

Tracey McErlain-Burns, chief nurse at the trust, will act as interim chief executive until Mr Eames takes up his new role.

It doesn't sound much like she's stepped down to me...golden handshake more like!!! Its disgusting how these people can get away with what they've done!

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 08:09 AMShe hasn't stepped down. She has moved on to another highly paid job in the NHS. There is no punishment for failure at any level in the NHS. Just ask my elderly female relative how badly the elderly are treated at Dewsbury Infirmary. Ask why this woman managed to manipulate the situation where the rebuild at Pontefract Infirmary resulted in the closure of A&E.
