A PRIMARY School headteacher has certainly been doing his homework - he’s released a book in the hope of inspiring debate.
Paul Franklin has been the head teacher of Upton Primary School for 11 years and had always had a passion for writing poems and songs.
Now he’s put them all together in an anthology – entitled Official Secret which was released last Thursday.
The collection includes everything from satirical observations of the classroom to more deep and profound issues, such as losing a loved one, and two poems inspired by the deaths of soldiers in the Yorkshire Regiment.
Mr Franklin, 54, said: “I am so proud of this book and think it will be a great tool for schools to use to spark debate about lots of issues. It can be enjoyed by children, adolescents and adults. It’s a book that covers generations.”
The father-of-two believed people are never too old to read poetry.
He has even included songs he wrote in the 80s while in a band, and one he wrote in his teens about unrequited love.
Mr Franklin tested out some of the poems on pupils in the school on Waggon Lane.
He said: “They were great to test some of them out and when they laugh you know you’re on to a winner.”
The book is available from.amazon.co.uk in Kindle format, and will soon be released in paperback.
