Bank manager’s castle makeover

DEDICATED South Elmsall workers gave up time from their days jobs to help spruce up a children’s activity area.
Jane Holland, the manager at Yorkshire Building Society, visited Wentworth Castle, Barnsley, for two days to give it a makeover and create children’s play area.
She said: “It was a very different day at work for us all but I think we all had a great time getting stuck in repainting and sanding down the fort.
“Hopefully the younger visitors to Wentworth Castle will be impressed with our work.”
She decided to volunteer at the castle after a customer brought it to her attention.
She said: “We are always looking for opportunities where we can lend a hand to our local communities, and when one of our customers approached us asking if we might be able to lend a hand at the castle we jumped at the chance.
In total ten members of staff from branches across the West Riding area spent two days at Wentworth Castle sanding and repainting the large fort in the children’s play area.
The castle is an up and coming English Heritage site and hopes to attract more visitors.
The team from the Yorkshire’s branches were the first team of volunteers to visit the site from a large local business.
The building society encourages volunteering amongst its staff.
Each member of staff is entitled to 14 hours paid leave a year to take part in such activities.
