Fans are biting their nails at the thought of Trinity lifting the trophy for a sixth time at the final at Wembley.

But first they need to overcome Warrington Wolves at Leigh on Saturday, July 30 before they get the chance to bring the coveted cup back home to Wakefield.

Trinity stand-off Jacob Miller said a cup final win for the city “would mean everything” to the team.

The club take on Castleford Tigers in the last game of the regular season at Belle Vue on Sunday.

Miller told the Express: “I’m really excited for the Challenge Cup game, all the boys are and it has been a great season for us so far.

“We want to finish the last game of the season against Castleford with a win and take through that momentum.”

Trinity face the Tigers on the back of a thrilling victory in Perpignan, where they beat Catalan Dragons in sweltering conditions.

They secured a top-eight league finish, taking them through to the Super League’s Super 8s showdown regardless of the league result this weekend.

Trinity have won the Challenge Cup five times before and last lifted the trophy in the 1962-63 season.

Miller said: “We want to bring the cup back to Wakefield but, we are under no illusions, Warrington are one of the best teams in the competition. It would mean everything to me and the team to win the cup for the city, especially after this season.

“This would be the icing on the cake. The support from the whole city has been unreal.”
