SLIDESHOW: Weekend of fun at scarecrow festival

Colourful characters made an appearance in Methley as villagers held their annual scarecrow festival.

Thomas the Tank Engine and a 90-year-old superman were among the stuffed figures created for the festival over the weekend.

Scarecrow trail maps were on sale as visitors to Methley enjoyed the event, which has been organised by Methley and Mickletown In Bloom for around 10 years.

The figures were on display at two venues, the village community centre on Main Street and the garden of Carol Seymour, one of the organisers.

The theme of this year’s festival was “anything goes”.

Mrs Seymour, of Pinfold Lane, said: “Everything went perfectly.

“We had two full days of good weather and it was heaving.

“I think we had about 80 scarecrows.”

Children’s games were held, along with a lucky dip, tombola and raffle.

A barbecue was held and refreshments were served both days at the community centre and various other venues around the village.
