Students celebrated success in their GCSE results despite an overhaul of the exam system.

Modular exams have now been scrapped meaning that this year’s students sat their exams at the end of two years of study, instead of being tested throughout the course.

The overhaul also means that schools can no longer include resit exams as part of their overall results.

The changes may explain why many of the district’s schools’ overall exam results have dropped slightly compared to last year’s figures.

Pictured are Hemsworth Academy students receiving their results.

See this week’s Express for the full list of results.
