SLIDESHOW: Princesses visit Wakefield to set record

Hundreds of princesses decended on Wakefield at the weekend in an attempt to break a world record.

Trinity Walk shopping centre hosted the Guinness World Record attempt for the largest gathering of people dressed as princesses as part of its fifth birthday celebrations.

While they fell short of the world record, 179 princesses attended in full dress and crowns.

Organisers believe it is the biggest official gathering of its kind ever in Yorkshire.

Cormac Hamilton, Trinity Walk’s centre manager, said: “While we didn’t break the world record, setting what we think is a Yorkshire record is brilliant.

“More importantly, we had so many smiling faces and it was a delight to see whole families turning up in full princess costume.

“We’ve never done anything like this before, so it wasn’t a bad first attempt and the support from other organisations and retailers was amazing.”

The event was supported by Theatre Royal Wakefield and Forget Me Not children’s hospice.
