Police crackdown on dangerous motorbike riders after deaths

Wakefield Police are appealing to the community to continue providing them with information in a bid to rid the streets of dangerous motorbike riders.

Sgt Dave Lockwood said: “In the past month two serious road traffic collisions have occurred within the South East area as a result of the dangerous riding of motorcycles.

“Numerous arrests have been made, numerous bikes seized and numerous court cases and prosecutions are pending.

“We would like to assure the community that we are doing everything we can to combat this issue.”

Sgt Lockwood said that some members of the community have been extremely supportive to the police and have ultimately assisted them in making some of these arrests and getting some offenders before the courts.

“For this we are extremely grateful for your support,” he said.

“We will only combat this problem with the support of the community. We work very closely with partner agencies from the local authority, WDH, fire service and elected members to do everything we can collectively to target these individuals who put decent members of the public at risk of harm.

“This is an appeal to you, the local community to work with us and support us in combatting this problem as a community. If you have any information, intelligence, CCTV, photographs that may assist us bringing these offenders to justice we urge you to get in touch with us anonymously if necessary.

“We will only combat this issue if we come together and with your support. To those of you that are responsible for these offences I assure you that we will continue to target you, arrest you and put you before the courts until you are no longer in a position to put members of this community in danger.
