Many people start the new year with a series of new resolutions.
Some of the most popular are to quit smoking, lose weight and get fit - and the Hemsworth and South Elmsall area offers a wide range of activities to help residents stick to their resolutions.
Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre, Bullenshaw Road, runs a number of keep fit classes, including zumba gold/Latin line sessions every Monday between 10-11am, rock and roll dance lessons between 7.30-8.30pm on Wednesdays and a technogym fitness class on Fridays between 6pm and 7pm.
There is also an over 50s keep fit class, which runs every Tuesday and Friday between 11am and noon. Visit www.hemsworthcouncil.co.uk for a full timetable of events.
Wakefield health walks - organised by Wakefield Council - are guided walks across the district for all levels of fitness. The hikes are led by a trained walk leader with safe routes, some of which run through areas of natural beauty or local history. For more information, visit www.wakefield.gov.uk or call the public health improvement team on 01924 303481.
Smokers who are trying to kick the habit can get a helping hand from the Wakefield NHS stop smoking service.
The service offers free advice and access to nicotine replacement therapy as well as a free quit kit. Smokers who use the service are four times more likely to quit.
