Organisers Newmillerdam Community and Conservation Association (NCCA) want residents and businesses to knit and display ducks in the week leading up to the race.

Graham Franklin, of NCCA, said: We have a Duck Race in Newmillerdam on Saturday, June 11 from noon to 4pm. This takes place in Owler Beck, at Slack Lane bridge, with stalls and activities, facepainting, bouncy castles on Slack Lane and on the Durkar Devils Football Club land. This year we have decided to add a twist to scarecrow competitions by having a scareduck competition. Resident and fine embroider Lily Mitchell, 77, has already knitted 30 ducks to make a fabulous kickstart to our competition.”
