South Elmsall’s Kickstart Art Group is staging an exhibition to commemorate 100 years since the start of World War One.

The exhibition, which opened at the Westfield Centre in South Elmsall last Friday, has a poppy theme and is called Lest We Forget.

The event has been partly funded by £100 which the group was awarded by the Asda XDC Community Fund, run in conjunction with the Express.

The exhibition features paintings, photographs and artefacts.

Organisers are expecting visits from local schools and are offering children the opportunity to produce their own art work to be included in the exhibition.

Kickstart Art aims to provide ‘art for all’ in a range of different formats. The Coalfields Regeneration Trust provided the funding for the group to start.

Ann Burkes, group leaders, said: “I am so proud of my group. Walking into the finished exhibition was wonderful.

“We would like to thank the Express, Asda and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust for the funding and the Westfield Centre for allowing us to display the exhibition.”

The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 9 am until 4 pm.

The group meets at the social centre on Westfield Lane meets on Thursdays from 10am to noon. For more information, call Ann Burkes on 01977 640502.
