Improving community links and promoting social contact are the main aims of April’s winner of the Asda Yorkshire XDC Community Fund.
The South Elmsall Social Inclusion Group picked up £100 from the fund, which is run in conjunction with the Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express.
The group is organised by Age UK at Farfield Court, South Elmsall, every Thursday. It helps around 18 pensioners who would otherwise be socially isolated. Members enjoy a weekly raffle, refreshments and a range of leisure activities.
Pauline Howe, group support worker, said: “We offer contact with the local community that would otherwise be unattainable to the group members. The group has been developed to improve social inclusion to isolated individuals and to improve the member’s health and wellbeing. This group aims to improve the quality of life to the participants.”
The Asda Yorkshire XDC Community Fund offers £100 to a different community group every month throughout the year.
To apply for the money, write to Gemma Jimmison explaining a bit about your group and what the £100 would be used for.
Winning groups must be able to get to the Asda distribution centre at 10am on the first Monday of every month.
Email firstname.lastname@example.org or write to Gemma Jimmison, First Floor, Bullring House, 23 Northgate, WF1 3BJ, to apply.
